Hubert Hoodie Sweater

Hubert from Wardrobe by Me has been given a make-over. The instructions are even clearer and the pictures updated.
I made a Hubert for my teenage son and he loves it. He has already requested more!! I usually don´t sew for him, as he is very picky, but he really loves the Hubert. My daughter at 17 even requested one of her own. Guess I have presents for Christmas all lined up.

Hubert is an easy sew and in the proces of making this one, taking photos was by far the biggest obstacle😂. The weather in Denmark is pretty crappy at this time of the year and it gets dark way too early to shoot photos after school and work.

The Sweatshirt comes together easily and only takes a few hours to make from cutting to finish. The instructions and illustrations are Wardrobe by Me´s usual standard = clear and precise.

My son is pretty slender, but likes his hoodies on the baggy side, so I went up a size to accommodate for that. Other than that, I did not make any changes. When making more Huberts, I think I will add a drawstring to the hood – just for fun and maybe a bit of color. He is not too big on many colors, but I think he would appreciate a fun-colored drawstring.

The very feminine Aurora from Wardrobe by Me

Wardrobe by Me has made another great pdf pattern with lots of options. Aurora is a gorgeous blouse and dress pattern with four different lengths, two different collars and two different sleeve lengths. It even has the option for pocket and a belt.
As autumn and winter in Denmark is approaching fast, I need blouses more than dresses, so I choose to sew the blouse with the long sleeve.

I will also have to make the dress without the sleeves, but with the bow too. Seeing other testers versions is really inspirational. You can find pictures from other testers on the Wardrobe by Me pattern support Facebook page.

Sewing a collar stand is something that can throw people of sewing a pattern, but the instructions and the way the collar is drafted, is very easy and ingenious. Everybody can sew this collar and get a near perfect result with this collar.

For fabric I choose a crepe Rayon that I really love from Atelier Brunette in the color Amarante. It has all the qualities of a rayon fabric, but it has a more beautiful matte finish and is a tad easier to sew with. I tend to go with black and grey, but I really love this dark red color.

Alterations; I lengthened the body and the sleeve by 3cm, which is pretty standard for me. When choosing size, I was a size 10 in chest and size 12 in hips. My first choice ways to sew the dress, therefore I went with the size 12 overall. My next Aurora I will make in size 10.

Aurora is on sale for a while.

The bohemian Janis BoHo Tunic

Scroll down for Danish version / Scroll ned for dansk version

Another great pattern from talented, Danish pattern designer Christina from Wardrobe by Me. This time it is a gorgeous tunic, called Boho Janis with several sleeve, neck and bottom options.

sewing blog about testing patterns sewing my own wardrobe

The tunic has a bohemian relaxed feel, but sewn up in a different fabric it will yield a totally different look. Imagine a singlecolor silk for a stylish look or a flower pattern for a more romantic feel. Or how about making a Janis in a light isoli for

a comfy look and feel?

There are four sleeve options and I chose to make the voulant option. First of all I´m not really fond of sewing ruffles, secondly I really like the more smooth transition between sleeve and voulant.

The fabric I choose is from Citystoffer, although I wasn’t able to find the actual fabric on the website. It is very airy and light and somewhat sheer. I might wear a cami underneath, however I´m not in these pictures.

The pattern itself is very much up to Wardrobe by Me´s usual standard, with great drawing and explanations to take you through every step. This is a pretty easy, fast sew that can be sewn by most people, depending on fabric of course.
Wardrobe by Me also has a FB, where you can get lots inspiration and help.

I have sewn a straight size 10, only alteration is that I lengthened the sleeve by 4 cm. Pretty standard alteration for me.sewing blog about testing pdf patterns sewing my own wardrobe

The pants are of course the lovely North Point Trousers.

The pattern is on sale now; and it is really worth it.

New Wardrobe By Me patterns

A few weeks ago I saw Christina from Wardrobe By Me looking for testers for 3 new summertops and I jumped right in and offered my assistance. I was lucky enough to be chosen as one of the testers.

I have never done any testing before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I must say it was a lot of fun and very educational.sewing blog about testing pdf patterns sewing my own wardrobe wardrobe by me

The first top I choose to test, was the Summer Breeze Tunic. This is a very lovely top with a slit at the front and ruffles at the bottom. The top is longer at the back, with is nice. An easy sew with a great fit. I made mine in a rayon/viscose from Stof og Stil.

Skærmbillede 2017-05-31 kl. 14.13.29The next Wardrobe By Me top I tested was the Summer Tulip Top. This top is my favorite of the two. The first one I made in a powder colored rayon/viskose also from Stof og Stil. I like this fabric because it comes in some nice solid colors and I often find rayon fabric way too busy for my taste. I must admit; I also like the price, especially for testing😊.

The second Summer Tulip Top I managed to squeeze onto a gorgeous Liberty of London silk I bought a few years back in London. I only had a meter and the only reason I managed to puzzle in all the pattern pieces was, that is non-directional. I really love this top and I have worn it several times since.

I think the gathering of fabric on the chest is very flattering and the kimono-like sleeve gives you slimmer upper arms. The fold on the sleeve is constructed in a way so that you don´t see the seam allowance from the fold on the inside of the sleeve. Very cleverly constructed. This top has a curved edge with a small hem.

Christina also had a sweatpants pattern for men on the way and was looking for testers. I was lucky enough to be able to test that too. This time it was the Rebel Sweatpants and Shorts.

I made a pair of sweatpants for my husband and a pair for my son. Both made in French Terry with some lycra.

My husband had been wanting sweatpants for a while and I have bought several pairs for him. None of wich he had liked and I have had to take them all back. I didn’t like the fit. Too loose at the bottom of the legs, too baggy, too tight on the thighs…..

I was a bit worried sewing these, I mean, I couldn’t just take them back to the store. Luckily they turned out to fit him just right. Not too baggy, but still room enough for his thighs and slim at the calves.

The pair I made for my son he has worn ever since. He is funny like that; he never wears sweatpants out of the house, but the second he walks in the door, and the sweatpants goes on.

My son wears the pants a lot lower that my husband, but they work really well both ways.

I love Christina´s patternes. They are pdf, so you have to print them yourself. The are made in layers, so you can choose which sizes you want printed. That makes it a lot easier when drawing the pattern pieces afterwards. Another nice thing is, that you don´t need to trim the papers before taping. That is a big timesaver!
