The Danube Jean Skirt by Itch to Stitch

Danube Jean Skirt Itch to Stitch pdfpattern new pdf pattern denim
As you may know I love denim, I love topstitching and I love skirts. Danube Jean Skirt from Itch to Stitch has all that and more.
The Danube Jean Skirt is a classic five-pocket jean-style skirt. It is slim fitting and has slits at the sides.

Danube Jeans Skirt is meant to be made in non-stretch fabric, but it is not restricted to denim. It can also be also corduroy, twill or other bottom weight fabrics.
I chose denim because, well, I love denimđź’•.

If you have made jeans before, sewing Danube is pretty straight forward. The details are the same as in most jeans, both the construction and the topstitching. If, however, you are new to sewing jeans and scared to try it, maybe because of the fitting and details, Danube Jean Skirt is a very good place to start. You get to practice sewing all the details and topstitching, without all the hassle of fitting jeans.

Fitting Danube is not hard. I have a protruding bum and had to shave of a bit of the yoke and add some length over the bum. Easy peasy, as you have both yoke and backseam to play with. Once you have everything sewn up, you might have to turn the skirt inside out and pin and sew the side seam in to your liking.
I always encourage people to make a muslin before cutting into the good fabric. It is very fast, as you don’t need to sew pockets, nor front or back, or any finishing.

Danube Jean Skirt will be a stable in my wardrobe and I have both a lovely two colored corduroy and a pinstriped denim ready to sew up two more skirts.

Danube is on sale for a short period of time.

Mountain View from Itch to Stitch

Mountain View from Itch to Stitch is my new best friend! Pull on jeans in stretch denim with a wide waistband, topstitching and pockets, stretch fabric and straight legs, but no zipper or button. They look like regular jeans, but they are sooo comfortable and they will stay in place and not let you down. Who dosen’t need a friend like that??

I made a straight size 10 and only did very little fitting. I added the, for me, usual 0,5cm extra room in the thighs and took out the same amount of fabric horizontally from the back thigh.
Mountain View Itch to Stitch pdf pattern pull-on jeans topstitchingFor my definitely wearable muslin, I used a brushed cotton twill with 3% lycra. They are very soft and comfortable. The only downside is, that the softness from the fabric being brushed, seems to be a magnet to lint.
My second pair is made from a dark denim with the appropriate amount of stretch. They are supposed to be made with fabric with a least 20-30% stretch. Both of mine is just shy of 30%. With the denim pair I also took in 1cm in each side at the bottom of the legs.

Mountain View Itch to Stitch pdf pattern pull-on jeans topstitchingWhen sewing Mountain View you have a great opportunity to play with the design on the pockets. I usually make my pocket designs pretty straight forward, but there are so many fun and beautiful designs for pockets. Just do  google or Pinterest search or see some of the other testers designs. Very inspirational.

I can definitely see myself making heaps more Mountain View in the futuređź’•

Meget inspirerende.

Jeg skal helt sikkert have syet flere Mountainđź’•

The top is of course Visby, also from Itch to Stitch. This one without the henley placket or hood. Blogpost about it here.
Mountain view is on sale for a short periode of time.

Santi Skirt from Designer Stitch

Australien Designer Stitch has released another great pattern. This time it is a cool denim skirt, Santi Skirt.
I absolutely love topstitching on denim. It looks cool and is super satisfying and very gratifying to sew. Plenty of
opportunities for topstitching on the Santi Skirt.

I have wanted a denim skirt for some time now, so when Ann from Designer Stitch called out for testers for Santi, I knew I had to join.
I´m so glad I did. Santi is a really enjoyable sew and
sew easy to wear and style. It looks great with a silk shirt, with a sweater or just a t-shirt. I is equally great with both high heels or boots.

Santi kan be made in different material, but the best choice is something a bit heavy without stretch. I would be great in the to colored corduroy I used for Tanner. Not sure where the fabric for this skirt came from -it was in my stash.

Santi sits a little below the natural waist and is very easy to fit. Actually you just need to cut out and sew the back and front facing and see if it fits. Since the skirt is a bit a-line, the hips and bum will typically have plenty of room if it fits in the waist.

The skirt also has pattern pieces for the belt, which is formfitting. It is tied in the front with a leather string. I have also seen it lengthened a bit and closed with a button.

Santi is on sale for a little while, so go get is while it is. Go join the Designer Stitch Pattern Support for help or more inspirational photos of Santi. If you join, you get a code for additional $1 of the sales price.

The fancy Tanner from Designer Stitch

I have tested yet another Designer Stitch Pattern. This time it is a great pair of culottes, called Tanner.
I have been looking for at pattern for culottes for at while and fell for Tanner right away. I have never own a pair of culottes and wasn’t sure they would be good on me, but I must say I´m convinced; everyone can wear culottes. Just have a look at tDesigner Stitch Tanner Sewing pdf pattern testing
he other testers culottes on Designer Stitch FB page.
Culottes can be a lot of styles, but Tanners are meant for fabric with some firmness and no stretch woven. Most of the inspiration photos in the tester group was with culottes in denim. I love denim and I love looking at and sewing topstitching, making denim ideal. I did however come across this gorgeous two colored corduroy and thought it would be just perfect for Tanner.

Putting the culottes together is fairy easy. You might have to do some fitting, I know I did, and you have to concentrate when topstitching. Other that that, it´s a breeze. Directions are clear and with lots of drawings.

I did do some alterations when fitting; turns out I have tilted pelvis, so I had to shave of a wedge from the front and add it to the back. Because of my protruding popo, I also had to shave a bit of the yoke.

DSC_1502The length is straight from the pattern. I am pretty tall, 174cm, and I think I might take of some of the length, showing the boots more. For me boots is the best choice for culottes.

For my second pair of culottes, I chose a wool gabardine with a little polyester it. It gives a totally different look, since it is a much softer fabric with a lot more drape. This look is not what the Tanner is designed for, but I think it works pretty well.

The Tanner also comes with pattern piece and instructions for a tie belt, which I didn’t make. I don´t like to have too much bulk around my wast and the belt wasn’t needed.
The culottes are high waisted and is designed to fit just below your natural waist hanging of your hips, making the culottes very comfortable to wear. It also makes them look good on most people, even people who would not normally wear culottes or pants that cut your lower leg in two, like me.

I have very much love for the Tanner culottes. Get them on sale for the next week or so at Designer Stitch.
