The very feminine Aurora from Wardrobe by Me

Wardrobe by Me has made another great pdf pattern with lots of options. Aurora is a gorgeous blouse and dress pattern with four different lengths, two different collars and two different sleeve lengths. It even has the option for pocket and a belt.
As autumn and winter in Denmark is approaching fast, I need blouses more than dresses, so I choose to sew the blouse with the long sleeve.

I will also have to make the dress without the sleeves, but with the bow too. Seeing other testers versions is really inspirational. You can find pictures from other testers on the Wardrobe by Me pattern support Facebook page.

Sewing a collar stand is something that can throw people of sewing a pattern, but the instructions and the way the collar is drafted, is very easy and ingenious. Everybody can sew this collar and get a near perfect result with this collar.

For fabric I choose a crepe Rayon that I really love from Atelier Brunette in the color Amarante. It has all the qualities of a rayon fabric, but it has a more beautiful matte finish and is a tad easier to sew with. I tend to go with black and grey, but I really love this dark red color.

Alterations; I lengthened the body and the sleeve by 3cm, which is pretty standard for me. When choosing size, I was a size 10 in chest and size 12 in hips. My first choice ways to sew the dress, therefore I went with the size 12 overall. My next Aurora I will make in size 10.

Aurora is on sale for a while.

The gorgeous Hvar Jacket

Itch to Stitch Hvar jacket sewing wool pdf pattern
The gorgeous new pattern from Itch to Stitch, Hvar, is a must in every fall wardrobe. Besides from being beautiful, it is also a very fast end easy sew. It doesn’t look  easy, but the way the collar it is constructed, is very clever and gives the jacket an elegant look.

The jacket can be sewn in fabric with some body, but also needs some drape for the collar to lay right. I choose a thin-ish coat wool. I love that the seam on inside of the jacket can be finished with Hong Kong seams. I find it sooo gratifying to make a nice finish on the inside.Skærmbillede 2017-09-28 kl. 14.37.27

Only alteration I did, was lengthened the sleeve by 3cm. That is a very common alteration for me, as I am tall and like my sleeve on the long side .

This blogpost has no affiliated links, as I want all the earnings to go to Kennis, who was burglarized and has her sewing machine, computer and camera stolen. For the same reason, she has lots of patterns on sale at the moment. Go check it out, and support a great indie pattern designer.

The beautiful Mexican-inspired Frida

I have tested another great Tunic. This time from Australian Designer Stitch. It is the fabulous Frida.
Frida Boho Designer Stitch Tunic Mexican blouse

The tunic is describes like this;
“The Frida encompasses all things vintage Mexican, Boho, gorgeous textiles and the most amazing trims and embellishments. Frida offers the choice of tunic length, tunic with gathered ruffle, dress with gathered ruffle or full length dress.
Add your choice of sleeve – short, long, short gathered puff or gathered long sleeve bishop to create a unique and on-trend seasonal silhouette”.
Skærmbillede 2017-09-28 kl. 13.58.15So true. There is a lot of options with this tunic/dress. Testers have made Frida in all sorts of styles and combinations. Frida is giving you a great opportunity to get out lots of trims and play around, but as I like my clothes to be more on the simple side, I found a fabric with some boho-feeling to it and omitted trims.

The fabric is from Citystoffer. Unfortunately it is not on their website, since they didn’t have a lot of it. It is a really great sheer cotton/silk blend with the pattern mirrored on either side. Perfect for a project like Frida. Look at the pictures below for details from the back where the mirroring really shows.

Here is an overview of the options. Since I need blouses/tunics in my wardrobe, I chose to make a tunic length top without the ruffles. I would like to wear it tucked in and ruffles don´t tuck in very well.
I love all the sleeve options, but since it is getting autumn really fast here in Denmark, I went with the long Bishop sleeve (reminds me of a peasant blouse, with I really like).

The pattern is so well drafted, everything comes together nicely and the instructions are easy to follow. Ann is very meticulous in her work, making it a pleasure to sew up her patterns.
Definitely more Fridas for me in the future; with all the options given in this one pattern, the possibilities are numerous.

The Frida is on sale until Wednesday the 11th of October.
